Utrecht was painted en Plein air on the Oudegracht, or "old canal," running through the center of Utrecht, Netherlands. This Medieval city is full of charm. Home to Utrecht University and The Utrecht School of the Arts for music and visual art.

Utrecht is also the name of an art supply store. A handful of my paintbrushes have the Utrecht logo on them. What an experience! Finding just the right spot to paint that day was a challenge. So much to take in.

The people traffic on the bridge where we set up was colorful and exciting. The normal conversation of onlookers was more educated than most. First, speaking Dutch until it was obvious that I was American. Then, commenting, “It is more interesting to see the atmosphere than the detail.”

The Dutch are interesting and wise.
