GIFTS from the SEA

Composite Gifts from the Sea metal point drawings about the ocean and recycling by artist Elizabeth Reed

Imaginary shell structures inspired by Anne Morrow Lindberg’s book, “Gifts from the Sea.” While Lindberg took a sabbatical from motherhood on Sanibel Beach in the fifties she wrote of the relationship between the shape of sea shells and the phases of a woman’s life as a wife and mother.

These shells are inspired by her description of the mother/woman as a cradle, vessel and a shield.
