La Madonna del Gabbiano is a collection of ideas born while living in Italy in 2013-14. I stayed on Isola del Giglio because my former spouse was key in raising the wreck of the Costa Concordia. What a wonderful time in our lives.
The wreck was horrible. Giglio is a pristine marine sanctuary invaded by a sunken cruise ship. Lots of press and subcultures of anyone who could get work on the wreck.
Oh, the Gabbiano! They were totally fearless. Dive bombed your dinner table, knocking over wine glasses and stealing food. Little devils they were.
La Madonna is ever present in Italy. She is always present – sometimes with daggers stuck in her – sometimes with glowing neon lights shining like a crown.
