Santa’s Big Move
Santa’s Big Move is a story about the consequences of climate change on our beloved Santa Claus. The North Pole is melting, so Santa’s village and his entire entourage need to be moved to the South Pole. Jack Gillig and Darrell House (with the tireless help of Ken Marc) wrote a tale full of action, adventures, humor, and life lessons. They asked me to illustrate their book.
Think Jimmy Buffet meets Santa.
Santa uses magic, a cargo plane, and a cruise ship to move his village to the South Pole. The weather is personified for fun. Mr. Bluster (the North Wind), his sister, Ms. Wendy (the South Wind), and his cousin Harry Cane scheme like mischievous kids to stop Santa from leaving the North Pole. All of the characters create mayhem to challenge the journey.
The authors reveal their South Florida roots in these crazy, fun tales. Santa’s village magically fits into a cargo plane and a cruise ship. The fiasco occurs at The North Pole, Greenland, New York City, Florida, the Caribbean Sea, the Panama Canal, and Antarctica. Pirates attack, and whales, dolphins, and penguins help the elves.
I created many of these characters on my bucket list trip to New Zealand. I was tramping through the land of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings with my iPad, sketching out crazy elves in the mountains and the ocean. The authors were fun, and I illustrated much of this book while loving every minute of a painting trip abroad.

Here’s what the authors had to say about my illustrations…
Santa’s Big Move
Ken Marc, Jack Gillig, and Darrell House wrote Santa’s Big Move. Jack Gillig conceived the idea, Ken Marc edited and produced the book, and Darrell House, a seasoned author, inspired the writing of the book. Darrell has earned numerous awards, including the Parent’s Choice Gold. When Elizabeth Reed became involved with the Santa’s Big Move project, all the pieces fell into place.
The middle-grade reader is humorous and entertaining, and several illustrators submitted ideas, but none jumped off the page like the samples from Elizabeth Reed. Her visions brought the tale to life in unexpected ways and enhanced the storytelling.
From Ken Marc
A friend of mine, who’s very much into art and knowing my penchant for photographic pictures, suggested I take a look at some of the paintings by Elizabeth. I immediately fell in love with her artwork. I especially fell in love with her landscapes.
A photograph can capture the beauty of a place; however, a magnificent painting can capture the soul, the heart, of the place. Her landscapes will take you to this beautiful place in very different ways a photograph cannot match. I strongly recommend spending some time perusing the gallery of Elizabeth’s very varied art. I firmly believe you will enjoy every minute of your foray through the gallery of her paintings… I did
